Eating Out in Quito, Ecuador

Dining out in Quito is extremely affordable and there is a very wide range of restaurants to choose from. Asian, American, European and local cuisines are all represented. When ordering your food keep in mind that wine and beer isn’t as inexpensive and can sometimes double your bill.

Generally speaking, the Old Town is where to find the cheapest eateries. Gastronomically, they are usually Ecuadorian restaurants also. It is in the New Town that the choice is that little bit more varied and it has more international restaurants.

It would be criminal to visit Quito without sampling some local delights. Caldo is there particular type of soup which can contain a host of ingredients. Other specialities include cuy which is roasted guinea pig and seco de pollo that is stewed chicken with rice and avocado slices.

Restaurants in Quito

  • Las Redes

Av. Amazonas 845 and Veintimilla, New Town, Quito, Ecuador

Las Redes specialises in seafood, and with most mains costing between $5 and $8, it is excellent value. Some of the meals include mussels, clams and calamari. Not to be missed both for value and quality.

  • Tianguéz

Plaza San Francisco, Old Town, Quito, Ecuador

While this café/restaurant is only open from 9am-6pm, it is a great place to grab a bite to eat in the afternoon and enjoys a superb location on Plaza San Francisco. Make sure to beat their pizzas.

  • Le Arcate

Baquedano 358, New Town, Quito, Ecuador

You are unlikely to find as wide a range of pizzas anywhere else in Quito as you are here - there are a total of 59 to choose from! Good value and quick, friendly service.

  • La Bodeguita de Cuba

Reina Victoria 1721, New Town, Quito, Ecuador

Along with trying the local food, it is good to see how Ecuadorians cook Cuban food also. This is the best place to do so as some of the main courses are very tasty! Best night to go is Thursdays when live Cuban music is played.

  • Red Hot Chili Peppers

Mariscal Foch 713 and Juan León Mera, New Town, Quito, Ecuador

No, this restaurant has nothing to do with the best selling rock band, instead it has a lot to do with some of the cheapest and best Mexican food in Quito. Enchiladas, fajitas and more adorn the menu here. The chefs make the Mexican dishes their own here by adding Ecuadorian spices.
