Getting Around in Quito, Ecuador

Getting there

By air: Quito’s airport, Aeropuerto Internacional Mariscal Sucre Airport, is 10 kilometres north of the city centre. All domestic and international flights land here.

The easiest way to get from the airport to the city is by using one of the taxis outside. They usually cost between $3 and $5, but you should check the most up to date price at the tourist information desk in the airport.

By bus: Terminal Terrestre de Cumandá at 24 Ave de Mayo in the Old Town is the city’s main bus terminal. This is where all long distance buses arrive.

Getting around

By trolleybus: Trolleybuses in Quito are extremely efficient and connect the old and new towns very well. Fares cost approximately $0.50c.

By bus: Buses get far more crowded than trolleybuses and should only be used if you are down to your very last dollars as they are cheaper.

By taxi: If you have the money to spend, or if you are in a group, taxis are arguably the best way to travel around Quito. They are very cheap, particularly for short journeys.
